The Cords
Eva and Grace Tedeschi

For our July 2025 Newsletter, we were excited to interview sisters Grace and Eva, aka The Cords.  Their debut album is out in September 2025 on Skep Wax and Slumberland.

Thanks for answering our questions....

So, Eva and Grace, when did you form the band?

We officially formed in mid 2023 and not long after that we supported The Vaselines in Mono, Glasgow for our very first gig.

As sisters, have you always done things together? My impression of sisters is that they really watch out for each other, but also argue a lot. Would that be a fair description of you two?

We are really very close and spend most of our time together and we always have done. We are best friends and don't argue very often but if we do we can move on very quickly from it as we usually end up making each other laugh!

Your debut album is sounding great. My impression is that you had a good time in the studio. Can you tell us a bit about what that was like?

We had the best time in the studio with Jonny Scott and Simon Liddell. It was very relaxed and we felt free to experiment a lot. Jonny and Si really understood what we wanted from the recording which made it work much easier and a really enjoyable. We didn't want an overproduced polished sound.

We recorded over 7 days in Jonny's home studio where we tried out different guitars and Eva got to use Stuart Braithwaites jazzmaster which was a real highlight and she didn't want to give it back! It was such good fun and we can't wait to do it again!

You’ve already made some very desirable merch – cassettes, T shirts, stickers. What’s the favourite thing you’ve put on sale so far?

Our favourite piece of merch has got to be our "I'm not sad" ltd ed T-shirts. They are so cute and to top it off Duglas T Stewart wears his often!!

The Scottish indie scene always seems so lively, with a great appetite for new groups. And it’s really nice the way you’ve been embraced by some established Scottish bands. Has that helped you find your feet?

It really has been amazing! We have had so many fabulous people support us along the way so far which means a lot to us.

From BMX Bandits, Andrew Tully, The Pastels, Camera Obscura, The Vaselines, Carla J Easton to name a few, we have been accepted and lots of support and advice given which we always appreciate and embrace. They have definitely helped us find our feet out there and we are grateful to them all!

Grant Mcphee's "postcards from Scotland" book launch and gig was amazing for us and the first time we played with Douglas McIntyre and Katy Lironi who have since been a huge support to us and really looked out for us and passed on valuable advice. And at the end of July you play Glas-Goes Pop. Last time we saw you there, you were in the audience! Does that make you feel that The Cords are making good progress?

Oh my goodness it's so exciting to be opening GGP this year! It's an honour really! We had such an amazing time last year and we loved doing the after-party with Lightheaded and this year is going to be brilliant too. The fact that we are opening means we can relax and enjoy the whole weekend. We feel we are making good progress and it helps being surrounded by like minded supportive people.
